HUMMINGBIRD INDIGENOUS FAMILY SERVICES MISSION AND VISION:

Healthy Indigenous babies being born into healthy Indigenous families being supported by healthy Indigenous communities. At Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services, we believe that attachment and culture are the foundations of healthy communities and that through rematriation (Returning the Sacred to the Mother) we can heal historical trauma.

Through culturally relevant support during the perinatal period, we reduce the personal, cultural, and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Indigenous parents while strengthening the bond between parents and connections to the community. In many ways, Hummingbird IFS aims to embody traditional models of pre-colonial support and care for families.

HUMMINGBIRD DATA SOVEREIGNTY:

Hummingbird’s Data Sovereignty team oversees research and evaluation of our core service programs. Our current projects include the “Rebuilding the Village” evaluation of Hummingbird’s BirthKeepers Doula Program and Pilimakua Family Connections program, the “Nurturing Future Ancestors” evaluation of Hummingbird’s Nest guaranteed income program and the CIRCLE-HV evaluation of Hummingbird’s Pilimakua Family Connections program. The  Community Evaluation Coordinator will participate in all three projects. The person hired to fill this role, in collaboration with the Director of Data Sovereignty, will contribute to community engagement, planning, coordination, data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities across projects. We also collaborate closely with Hummingbird’s other programs and staff to support their work, ask relevant questions, and highlight their programs’ stories.
