HUMMINGBIRD INDIGENOUS FAMILY SERVICES MISSION AND VISION
Healthy Indigenous babies being born into healthy Indigenous families being supported by healthy Indigenous communities. At Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services, we believe that attachment and culture are the foundations of healthy communities and that through rematriation (Returning the Sacred to the Mother), we can heal historical trauma.
Through culturally relevant support during the perinatal period, we reduce the personal, cultural, and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Indigenous parents while strengthening the bond between parents and connections to the community.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for amplifying Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services’ mission and initiatives across various digital platforms. The ideal candidate will create culturally responsive content that celebrates Indigenous knowledge, fosters community engagement, and raises awareness of our programs and services. This role requires a deep understanding of Indigenous (American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) communities, storytelling, and social media trends.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy and Creation:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with Hummingbird's mission and goals
- Create engaging and culturally appropriate content, including graphics, videos, stories, and posts for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
- Ensure content is reflective of Indigenous values, diverse communities, and respectful of cultural protocols.
- Creating diverse messaging
- Create and distribute monthly newsletters
Community Engagement:
- Attend our in-person events and virtual events to take pictures/videos and talk with the community and staff to inform social media content.
- Foster meaningful interactions with followers by responding to messages, comments, and inquiries in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.
- Build relationships with Indigenous influencers, organizations, and advocates to amplify shared initiatives.
Analytics and Reporting:
- Monitor social media performance using analytics tools and provide monthly reports on engagement, reach, and growth.
- Use data insights to refine strategies and improve campaign effectiveness.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with program teams, and community partners to align messaging and storytelling efforts.
- Participate in team meetings, community events, and workshops to stay informed on organizational activities and community needs.
Meetings & Supervision:
- Position reports to Storytelling Program Manager.
- Meet regularly with Storytelling Program Manager to check-in about work plans, goals and support needed.
- Attend weekly/bi-weekly Storytelling Program meetings
- Attend monthly All-Staff In-person meetings
Qualifications
- A deep understanding of and connection to Indigenous communities, cultures, and values.
- Proven experience managing social media accounts, preferably for mission-driven or community-based organizations.
- Strong skills in graphic design, video editing, and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, ).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on storytelling and community-centered language
- Knowledge of social media analytics and the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
- Familiarity with social justice, advocacy, and trauma-informed communication practices is an asset.
Compensation
$34K per year. Part-time (20 hours per week)
Location:
Hummingbird IFS generally works a hybrid schedule (mixture of office and remote work). This role is primarily an on-site position, requiring in-person presence at community events throughout King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties.
